We welcome patients from Canada!

Do you have varicose veins, venous ulcers, or legs that are heavy, aching or swollen at the end of the day? If you live in Canada and are concerned about the way your veins look— or, more importantly, how they feel— then you should speak to us.

At the Vein Healthcare Center in South Portland, Maine, Dr. Cindy Asbjornsen and her team regularly treat patients from Canada. We can schedule your evaluation, treatment and follow-up appointments so that your visit to Maine is as easy as possible.

Why seek treatment for varicose veins?

Getting rid of varicose veins isn’t about vanity. It’s about your health and quality of life. Varicose veins are the result of venous insufficiency: blood that pools in the vein because of a faulty valve. They are a symptom of early stage venous disease, and, untreated, can lead to increased symptoms and worsening appearance.

“Vein stripping” is an outdated, and often painful, procedure. Modern varicose vein treatments are outpatient procedures that are minimally invasive and virtually pain-free. Common procedures include Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA), sclerotherapy, or even conservative measures like compression therapy. Every patient has different goals for health and wellness. Dr. Asbjornsen spends time with each patient to determine what his or her goals are, then works with the patient to decide on the best treatment plan to meet those goals.

Why choose Vein Healthcare Center?

Dr. Asbjornsen was one of the first physicians in the region to be Board-certified in the emerging field of phlebology (vein care), and she is the only vein specialist in Maine to be named a Fellow by the American Board of Phlebology. She is also the founder of the Maine Phlebology Association, as well as editorial director of Vein Health News, Maine’s vein magazine for primary care physicians.

At the Vein Healthcare Center, we believe that people with vein issues should have the knowledge to make good, informed decisions about their leg health.
